Twelve people from all over Australia are introduced and sent into the Big Brother house.

Big Brother Australia is the Australian version of the international Big Brother reality television series. A group of people selected from a national search share a House sealed from the outside world for up to 100 days. Watching over these Housemates is Big Brother - heard only via a fatherly voice. He is the all-seeing all-knowing authoritarian figure who monitors the Housemates' every move. Every week Housemates nominate each other for Eviction in a secret ballot. The viewers then vote to decide who will be Evicted. The last person left wins the major cash prize. Big Brother is the original and unparalleled social experiment. For the most part, the Housemates are left to do as they please in a hyper-real environment largely unpenetrated by the outside world while everything they do is watched by cameras - and ultimately the public. Tasks constitute the only real interference with the Housemates' lives. Basic food and shopping money is provided for staples, however the Housemates have the opportunity of increasing their weekly allowance, or furthering their position in the game, by passing these Tasks. The action unfolds in real time. Everyday living combines with friendship, arguments, love, betrayal and despair to become the stuff of a real-life soap opera.

The girls were asked to correctly match the seven secrets with the seven male housemates. The females were given four "lives" or chances but failed to guess all seven correctly. This means the male housemates will be immune from Day 8's nominations. As soon as the females had finished guessing, Big Brother announced that the Parlour was no more and the males were invited to the "Man Cave", the newly renovated Parlour. Upon entering, the males were told by Big Brother that like them, each female housemate had a secret. The task for the week would be to correctly match each secret with each female housemate. Correctly matching the secrets would mean automatic immunity for all male housemates at the following week's nominations.

Housemates learned they would have a total of five nomination points, to divide between two women. It was revealed later that night that Charne had received the most votes, with Estelle and Layla behind her. These were the three nominees for the week. Housemates were also given their weekly task this day called the Road Trip Task. They would have to complete a 3627 kilometre trip in a motorbike and side-car. Success will give housemates a luxury food budget. That afternoon while Michael is cleaning the fish tank, he hears a voice (Big Brother) who claims to be Surly, the fish in the tank. Surly gives Michael the task of hugging each housemate within 10 minutes, without them realising something is going on. Michael completes the task, returns to the bathroom, and Surly tells Michael to go into the Bedroom and "find the multi-coloured spiral ornament on the back wall. Grab hold of it and turn it slowly, a quarter turn to the right to be precise". Michael follows the instructions and inside is the Secret Executive Bathroom. It has a bath, shower, champagne, bath soaps and dressing gowns. Michael enjoys a bath before returning to the house.

This line-up would always correlate "Most" to "Least" likely (to...). Aisha and Lawson progressed to the next stage. Jake and Gemma were involved in a knock-out round between Cat and Travis. The women from each pair had to sit with their backs to their partner, wearing headphones to ensure they could not hear anything. Their partner meanwhile had to make up a profile of them, guessing things such as who their ideal man was and what their guilty pleasure was. Once they had locked in their answer, the women - who had to make their own decision whilst their backs were turned -, had to reveal their answer. If their partner got it right, the pair would earn one point. In the end, Jake and Gemma were the winning pair, progressing to the next stage.
