Ken Boon and Harry Crawford are two middle-aged ex-firemen. Harry retires and opens a hotel (The Grand Hotel), with Ken as a temporary odd-job man.

Ken is hired by an environmental group to investigate water pollution, and finds that pollution is not only the dirty business going on. Meanwhile, Harry's plan to start a security business suffers a setback when his bank manager refuses him a loan.
Ken's back in business with a new boat, new offices and a new name for the company because Harry and Ken are now in partnership, running Crawford Boon Security (CBS); Ken runs the investigations and Harry acts as a security consultant. Sadly the clients do not change.
An Irish builder asks Ken to investigate a break-in and theft of cash at the office, while women spell trouble for the two friends when Ken goes to investigate a burglary and Harry moves house and Rocky lodges with him.
Ken and company are kept on their toes when they spend a night overseeing security at the ballet and encounter rather more drama than they bargained for.

Harry and Ken are called upon to investigate some very strange goings-on at a private school for girls.
Ken finds himself being interrogated about a crime he did not commit, thanks to a jilted lover and a lying husband. Harry is approached by an elderly man who wants to rent space in the warehouse - a request that is not quite as innocent as it sounds.
Laura and Rocky are asked to tail a man recently released from prison, and the owner of a motorbike shop enlists Ken's help in recovering a bike sold to a customer who provided a bogus name and bank details.
Wedding bells are ringing - but the nearest Ken and Harry get to the festivities is installing security cameras for the big day. They observe both family members and guests behaving suspiciously, and soon find themselves witness to nefarious activities.
Rocky is in love again - this time with a female snooker player. Someone is trying to undermine Ken, who has a contract to guard a building site, so nothing goes according to plan.
A fairground Ferris wheel owner helps Ken out on his latest case, and Rocky takes on the case of recovering Clara Bow, a trial-winning sheepdog which has been stolen.
Ken is in for a few surprises when he investigates a woman whose husband suspects her of adultery, while a chirpy Liverpudian teenager asks him to trace the father she's never known. Harry, meanwhile decides to organise a Christmas party then worries that nobody will turn up.
