Boston Legal is a spin-off of the long-running David E. Kelley series The Practice (1997), following the exploits of former Practice character Alan Shore (James Spader) at the legal firm of Crane, Poole, and Schmidt.

S1.E1 ∙ Head Cases
Senior partner Edwin Poole has a nervous breakdown in front of everybody. Denny Crane has now to face the loss of a friend in the office. Meanwhile, Alan Shore finds a new enemy in Brad Chase, who is not only the ex of Sally, but also makes him work on a case of a little girl, who wants to play "Annie" in a musical production. Lori is taking care of Ernie Dell, who wants his marriage to be annulled, because he thinks his wife cheats on him. Sally and Brad work on a case concerning a divorced couple and their kids.
S1.E2 ∙ Still Crazy After All These Years
Alan tries to get his ex-girlfriend Christine, who once tried to kill him, out of a psychiatric installment, but he must find out that this wasn't the best idea he ever had. Especially Sally's behavior towards Christine doesn't make it easier for Alan and Sally to get closer. Denny meanwhile still has trouble with his partners, who want him out of the firm.
S1.E3 ∙ Catch and Release
After he helped her to get out of a psychiatric clinic, Alan now has to face his ex-girlfriend Christine as an opponent in court. Lori is appointed to help Alan. Sally has her first real case of which she has got to take care all by herself and it isn't going very good for her. Denny Crane's son Donny, whom he hasn't seen for 15 years, shows up in the office, but not just as a visitor but also a lawyer.
S1.E4 ∙ Change of Course
Edwin Poole manages to escape from the psychiatric hospital; and returns to the court room. He takes over a case without anyone recognizing it until Lori appoints herself as his assistant in court. Sally realizes that it is much harder to be in a relationship with Alan. Alan himself still has to fight with Brad over his position in the law firm.

Alan and Tara defend a hypochondriac who is suing his doctor for malpractice. Brad and Denny work on one of Edwin Poole's old cases where their client, Holcomb Pharmaceuticals, is being sued for bilking senior citizens out of millions of dollars. Sally and Lori defend a man who killed a guy who beat him up four years ago with a martial arts punch.
S1.E6 ∙ Truth Be Told
Alan represents the husband, who is running for mayor, of his old crush Samantha, when a false rumor is publicized. Denny awaits the results of the test which will reveal whether he has Alzheimer's or not, while Lori helps a lawyer convincing his wife to give him his sons frozen umbilical cord, which would save his life. Meanwhile Denny takes Sally's client who is suing a toaster company for his faulty product.

Lori helps a former informant, who was shot while robbing a convenience store, not to have the bullet removed which connects him to the crime. Meanwhile, Alan tries to help his client who is accused of being a slumlord and is forced to do despicable acts from an infuriating judge. Denny gets arrested for solicitation.

Alan takes over a case Denny rejected for personal reasons. He has to defend a man who was fired from being Santa because he is a transvestite. Brad and Alan bet on the outcome of the case. Lori's therapist is worried that one of his patients may kill someone and asks for legal help.

Alan and Denny defend a drug company who is sued by a woman for taking her off an experimental pill which could have healed her sickness. Tara gets new information which would probably help her an Lori to win their case, but the way she retrieved it could cost them their case and careers.

Lori and Brad defend a woman who is accused of killing her husband and his mistress. Alan's life becomes in danger when he helps a woman whose ex-husband plans to kidnap their children.
S1.E11 ∙ Schmidt Happens
The named partner Shirley Schmidt arrives to bring order to the firm. While making herself known, she deals with Denny who does not want her there. Lori and Paul represent a Sudanese native who is suing the U.S. government for not taking action against the mayhem that is happening in his country. Alan defends Bernard who killed his mother.

Lori, Denny and Shirley defend a school superintendent who fired two science teachers because they refused to teach creationism. Alan learns his assistant has expressed concern about their work relationship, needs legal his help again. One member of the firm is fired.
S1.E13 ∙ It Girls and Beyond
Brad is attracted to his lesbian client who is sued for having a relationship with her boss merely for financial purposes. Alan second chairs, while Denny tries to prove that he is a competent attorney by defending a doctor who described a non FDA approved drug. Meanwhile, the rest of the firm tries to deal with Alan's new assistant, Catherine Piper.
S1.E14 ∙ 'Til We Meat Again
Denny and Shirley help a man whose steakhouse is put out of business, because the public wants to ban red meat for fear of Mad Cow disease. While Denny becomes convinced he has Mad Cow disease, Alan is arrested for conspiracy to commit assault and battery. He started a bar brawl while being out with Tara.
S1.E15 ∙ Tortured Souls
Shirley asks Alan to defend a policeman who tortured a man to retrieve information. Denny and Chelina represent a woman who is suing her former boyfriend for leaving her at the altar. Bernard is befriended by Catherine and Alan finds variance with that.
S1.E16 ∙ Let Sales Ring
Milton Bombay needs Denny and Shirley to help him being frozen so he can continue his legacy as a great lawyer in the future. Alan and Chelina help a high school student who accuses his teacher of censorship when he blocks out a news station on the school's television.
S1.E17 ∙ Death Be Not Proud
Alan assists Chelina in Texas, where a former client is getting executed while he is maybe innocent. Denny and Shirley represent an old friend of theirs when she is charged with having sexual encounters for a fee. Lori files a complaint about Denny.
S2.E1 ∙ The Black Widow
Alan Shore and Denny Crane defend a beautiful young woman accused of murdering her much-older husband.
S2.E2 ∙ Schadenfreude
While Kelly Nolan's trial continues, Sara and Garrett help Denise to settle on her divorce. Malcolm, Tara's former lover, convinces her to represent Edwin Starr's nephew, who cant sing "War" at a nightclub, because its owner says it's unpatriotic.
S2.E3 ∙ Finding Nimmo
Denny takes Alan fishing to Nimmo Bay to help him get over his breakup with Tara. Sara and Garrett target the lawyer of Denise's husband, a priest, to settle the divorce. Catherine Piper confesses that she murdered Bernhard.
S2.E4 ∙ A Whiff and a Prayer
Denny helps defending a congressman, who didn't keep his campaign promises. Alan defends Catherine Piper for murdering Bernard. Sara is given an ultimatum by the priest she and Garrett blackmailed.
S2.E5 ∙ Men to Boys
Denise has problems, when she has to try a case she neglected for three years, in which an auto-injury killed a woman, who only had a few more days to live. Garrett meets Cassie a young paralegal, who is hiding a painful past. Denny has to apologize to Lori or face a sexual harassment suit, while Alan takes Sara out on a date, where he behaves strangely.
S2.E6 ∙ Witches of Mass Destruction
Shirley help a Christian and a Wiccan couple, who want to stop the school's Halloween celebration. Alan represents Cassie suing the US military, because her brother died in the war. This of course is a hard test for Alan and Denny's friendship.
S2.E7 ∙ Truly, Madly, Deeply
Denny does not want to defend a man who raped and killed a 13-year-old girl. He finds a way to get out of it, but ends up in jail. Alan has to overcome his fear of clowns, when he helps suing one. Shirley assigns a weird bestiality to Denise.
S2.E8 ∙ The Ass Fat Jungle
Denise defends the top Boston plastic surgeon, who is sued for injecting fat from his butt into his patients. Shirley has problems handling a case involving an Alzheimer's patient. Meanwhile Denny undergoes an MRI, while Alan has night terrors and asks his new secretary to guard him at night.
S2.E9 ∙ Gone
Denny's using of firearms again becomes an issue to the firm, when a homeless man threw a rock at him. Denise and Brad try to find a kidnapped boy who is close to her heart. They have to become rather extreme when some obstacles appear.
S2.E10 ∙ Legal Deficits
Denny and Shirley team up to defend Brad, who is on trial for his actions in trying to find a kidnapped boy. Alan helps his secretary solve her credit card woes with assistance from Jerry Espenson, an expert in financial law who exhibits odd social behavior.
S2.E11 ∙ The Cancer Man Can
Alan takes up the cause of one of the associates, Denny meets a woman, and Denise helps defend a client accused of buying his way onto a drug trial.
S2.E12 ∙ Helping Hands
Daniel Post finagles his way onto one of Denise's cases, Alan takes up Jerry's cause with rather more enthusiasm than Shirley would like, and Denny gets serious about his new love.
S2.E13 ∙ Too Much Information
Denise and Alan represent a young girl whose father killed her mother after finding her whereabouts on her HMO's website. Alan also has to defend Catherine Piper, who started robbing convenience stores. Beverly Bridge, Denny's fiancée who he met at a charity event, is causing trouble in the firm, while Paul, Shirley, and Brad try to manage the situation. Daniel Post goes in for chemotherapy and attempts to shut out Denise.
S2.E14 ∙ Breast in Show
Alan dates Irma and later finds himself defending her, because she is charged with a sex crime for protesting topless. Daniel Post invites Denise to his funeral party, Garrett has problems to get Catherine out of his office, and the rest of the firm is still dealing with Denny's fiancé.
S2.E15 ∙ Smile
Alan helps a little girl, who can't smile because her face muscles were damaged in an accident. She was refused entry to a prestigious private school because of this. Denny and Shirley are on a case, where a hospital refused to give a rape victim the morning after pill because of religious beliefs. Meanwhile Denny assigns Brad to help his fiancé by preventing her ex-husband from shutting off the machines that keep her cat alive.
S2.E16 ∙ Live Big
While trying to woo her back, Shirley Schimdt's ex-husband asks her to be in his upcoming wedding. Alan and Denny defend a man who killed his wife at her request. Paul reaches out to his daughter.
S2.E17 ∙ ...There's Fire!
Denny is caught with another woman on his wedding day, putting the firm in jeopardy and Alan fights a wrongful termination.
S2.E18 ∙ Shock and Owww!
Denny is spurred from his depression over losing Bev by a self-defense case, Paul suspects his daughter may be using again, and Shirley asks Alan to intercede for her when an artist dies.
S2.E19 ∙ Stick It
Alan does his best to fight for his assistant, Melissa, who submitted blank taxes; Denise defends a vigilante cop impersonator; and Paul tries to uncover the truth about his daughter's drug use.
S2.E20 ∙ Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Paul announces that he needs to take some time off. And while most of the staff are concerned if they can go without Paul, Denny gives him Paul his blessing. So while everyone tries to do Paul's job, the firm suffers. Shirley finds herself working with her ex Ivan on a case and while working together, Ivan tries to woo her.

Alan develops "Word Salad" syndrome, talking gibberish. Brad brings in a big client whose company is sued for making addictive video games that killed a teenager. And Denise defends a polygamy case.

Jerry asks Alan to help him with a case, defending a father who killed a man who got away with murdering his son. Meanwhile, Ivan restarts his relationship with Shirley even though he is still married to Missy.

Denny shoots Dr. Sydney Fields after a verbal showdown during a therapy session, leaving Alan to defend him in court and the partners to ponder whether it is time to oust Denny from the firm.

Alan and Denny are still in Los Angeles defending a celebrity who assaulted a paparazzo who's pursuing her. Brad tries to work out a plea deal for his niece which would give her probation but the judge for some reason decides to throw the book at her which means she's going to jail. He learns that Shirley knows the judge who tries to convince to honor the plea agreement. And Denise's war with Marlene is reaching the breaking point.
S3.E1 ∙ Can't We All Get a Lung?
Alan hires a sexual surrogate to help Jerry Espenson overcome his fear of intimacy with women, which only gets Jerry in more legal trouble. And Shirley takes Daniel Post's case after Denise learns that her fiancé is planning to buy a lung from a terminally-ill man.
S3.E2 ∙ New Kids on the Block
A cocky new lawyer joins the firm from the New York office and defends a client who was having an adulterous affair with a murdered judge, and Denny gets in more hot water after a blind date with a "midget."
S3.E3 ∙ Desperately Seeking Shirley
Alan represents Shirley's ex-husband, who is looking for a hole in his new post-nup, which was written by Shirley. Meanwhile, the judge's murder trial continues, and Denny reaches a compromise after the little person sues him.
S3.E4 ∙ Fine Young Cannibal
Alan and Shirley take on a grandstanding District Attorney prosecuting a homeless man for cannibalism. The case gives Alan an opportunity to make his move on her, but he can't get together with her without Denny's approval.
S3.E5 ∙ Whose God Is It Anyway?
Jeffery, Claire and Denise's judge murder trial gets underway, and Alan defends Jerry Espenson after firing a lawyer in his new firm because he's a Scientologist.
S3.E6 ∙ The Verdict
Coho's defense weakens after his client's father testifies against him and Alan feels something is missing when he picks up his relationship with Sally.
S3.E7 ∙ Trick or Treat
Alan must defend Jerry Espenson again, this time for committing perjury to get on a jury. Meanwhile, Denise learns that her fiancé, Daniel Post, has died, but the doctors are having trouble locating his remains.
S3.E8 ∙ Lincoln
Lincoln Meyer chooses Denny to represent him when he's suspected of killing the judge. Jerry enlists Alan's help in a first degree murder case. Brad has had it with Jeffrey, who wants to have Shirley. Alan overhears Denise telling Shirley about her desires, and takes advantage of it. Denny can't seem to decide between Bethany and her mother.
S3.E9 ∙ On the Ledge
Lincoln goes to extremes and kidnaps Shirley. The trial begins for Jerry's client, and Jerry shines as an attorney in court. Denny feels threatened as the bond between Jerry and Alan strengthens. Brad and Jeffrey take their office relationship to the "next level."
S3.E10 ∙ The Nutcrackers
Clarice applies for a job as Claire's new assistant, but she'll only hire him as Clarence. Alan's new case is involved in a friendly wager with Shirley. Brad and Jeffrey are assigned to work on a case, together, involving a woman who wants to sue God, even though they can't stand one another, which makes Denise feels more like a referee, than an attorney.

Alan and Denny go to New Orleans to help defend a doctor on trial for euthanizing her patients during the flood after Hurricane Katrina, and Clarence sues a women's gym that revoked his membership after he revealed that he was a man.

The firm defends a grade school teacher who is sued after one of her students dies from a peanut allergy, and Alan takes on the Office of Homeland Security after Denny is wrongly placed on the "no-fly list."
S3.E13 ∙ Dumping Bella
Denny takes Bella's case against an animal rights group opposed to her cosmetic testing procedures, and her daughter Bethany is opposing counsel. And at the same time, Denny wants to dump Bella because he's still in love with Bethany.

Alan defends a judge suing a company promising to cure him of "same sex attraction disorder," and Shirley defends a man keeping a teenage sexual assault victim from taking medication that will make her forget the experience.

Denny is sued for operating a company that wants to turn human fat into fuel, Clarence gets his first case, and Jeffery submits his resignation after he finds out that he's not the father of Denise's child.

Judge Weldon asks Alan to defend her in a case, which leads to a potential relationship. Meanwhile, Clarence has a client who wants to sue a college sorority for kicking her out, and Jerry Espenson is opposing counsel.

Jerry shows up at Shirley's office, wishing to return to the firm and clients include someone who was detained at the hands of the government, who felt he was involved in a terrorist plot of some kind. Alan defends a priest on trial for housing an illegal alien, and Brad and Denise hurry to get married before their baby is born. Meanwhile, Shirley gives Jerry a housing discrimination case involving a woman and her duck.

Carl Sack is brought in from the New York branch to act as office "enforcer." Shirley is sued by Stanford University after she backs out of a donation. And a new lawyer, fresh out of law school, is assigned an unwinnable murder case.

New lawyer Katie Loyd and Jerry take on their unwinnable murder trial. Shirley invites Lorraine to join the firm as a new associate. Denny lusts after the new associate and immediately invites her to sleep with him. Alan warns Denny to stay away from Lorraine. Denny speculates with Alan about the nature of the relationship between Shirley and new boss, Carl Sack.

Carl and Denny bet on the outcome of their cockfighting case, a teenager who is HIV positive sues her school for only teaching abstinence, and Jerry begins to have romantic feelings for his new colleague.

A general sues the military because he was fired after coming out. The firm's latest hire takes a custody case involving child bullfighting. Alan's "word salad" returns over Lorraine, and Denny finds out about Shirley and Carl.

A man whose sperm was used without his knowledge to impregnate a woman tries to get the court to force her to have an abortion, and Alan and Shirley are opposing counsel. Jerry defends Leigh after she is fired for hugging a student.
