Has-been photojournalist Lee Berger, once famous for his photo of a man standing up alone to government tanks during the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests, returns to China in 2016 to take a break from Trump's America and see an old friend.

Lee follows the trail for the Tank Man through Manhattan's Chinatown. Meanwhile in Beijing, Zhang Lin discovers Joy is missing and Ming Xiaoli's health deteriorates.

As the 2016 US election day nears, Lee approaches exiled Chinese billionaire Tang Wen Lei for help with his search for Tank Man. Elsewhere, Zhang Lin works tirelessly to help awareness of Joy's wrongful detainment by the Party.

In the aftermath of the election, Lee's search for the Tank Man leads him to a shocking conclusion as Zhang Lin finally finds the courage to stand up to the Chinese authorities.
