The stakes are raised when one chef is allowed to salt their steak. Other culinary obstacles include having to make an omelet on the underside of a pan; and being forced to serve bananas Foster on a stick.

One chef must get to work when they are handed a 500 watt work light as their only heat source to cook a quesadilla. Then it's careful cooking when someone is forced to cook chicken soup on a cookie sheet.

Two chefs learn the true meaning of improvising when forced to switch dishes in the middle of a challenge. Then, a chef gets innovative when given a loaf of sliced bread to use as a bread bowl for clam chowder.

Four chefs return for more punishment and a second chance. A chef gets to pulverize one competitor's hot dogs in a food processor. Then, a chef is forced to cook pasta carbonara with a chemistry set.

A chef must decide to go sweet or savory with calzones when their entire stash of cheese is swapped out for tiramisu. In the final challenge, a chef is forced to downsize when they have to cook their fajitas on a mini skillet.

Things get extreme when one chef loses everything but a roll of tin foil and heat while cooking a dish. Then, Alton Brown auctions off his compost bucket forcing one chef to make a quiche out of the food bits that are normally thrown out.

Three chefs are forced to come up with new versions of BLTs when their main ingredients are taken away. A chef is forced to make ramen without noodles and someone is slowed down when they get a little puffed up while making a soufflé.

Alcohol is the only means of heat available to prepare a bar snack; one chef must make a breakfast burrito while literally in bed; and Alton cleans out the fridge for ingredients to be used in bread pudding.

Pasta art is up for auction in a pesto pasta challenge. A chef hangs loose when creating a Hawaiian plate lunch and someone gets their dose of sabotage when they're forced to use olive oil capsules for their muffins.

It gets a little too close for comfort when making pea soup; a chef's knives are replaced with lamb shears; and a super-sized whisk is used to prepare chocolate mousse.

A hot version of Cobb salad is created; random items in a shopping cart are used to build a kitchen; and a layer cake is made with a cement mixer.

A frittata challenge has a twist involving eggshells; one chef is forced to cook with old kitchen supplies found at a yard sale; and steak Diane is put through the shredder.
S3.E11 ∙ Well, Hot Clam!
The chefs are tripped up by a backyard grill suit, and later, equipment gets tangled in fish nets. Also: There's a trick to making a winning barbecue chicken sandwich.
S3.E12 ∙ Judging Judges
The judges compete and have to overcome obstacles, including shredded tortillas and having to cook with one hand tied behind their back. Also: Alton holds a meatball lottery.

Making chicken potpie turns into a balancing act for one chef; and a challenge, which follows a childhood rhyme, proves nightmarish. Also: the winner is determined by who serves the best cheesecake.

A cocky chef deals with his gourmet basket being replaced with leftovers from a breakfast buffet. Later, pasta Bolognese is prepared in an Italian espresso pot; and milk for a tres leches cake comes directly from a cow.

A chef gets dirty digging up their ingredients from a wacky vegetable garden; and a punishment is given for trying to "phone in" during a pizza challenge.

Steak is cooked over a romantic candlelit dinner; one chef is stuck with a giant whisk as their only tool; and another competitor is forced to make a cake while walking on cake boxes.

Alton Brown gives one competitor the ultimate poncho to wear while making a breakfast quesadilla. Other challenges include cooking meatloaf in a recliner; and walking on cupcake boxes.

Two chefs are forced to cook breakfast as a tag team; Alton Brown's ax is used to chop up a pork chop; and traffic cones threaten to sabotage a dessert.

Breakfast is made in a bunk bed; a sabotage involves Alton's hike out of the Grand Canyon; and a chef is forced to use long tools when making strawberry shortcake.

Challenges include digging for clams, cooking turkey burgers while wearing arm weights, and making a tart with fruits that are often mistaken for vegetables.
S7.E2 ∙ Alton and the Chocolate Factory
Chocolate challenges are presented to the competing chefs, one of whom has to face Alton's conveyor belt.
S7.E3 ∙ Whatchoo Taco'ing About, Alton?
A deli sandwich is made with ingredients from a vending machine; two chefs have to cook each other's tacos; and a lazy "sundae" drive around the kitchen is offered up as the final obstacle. Anne Burrell is the special guest judge.
