Samuel L. Jackson recruits two notable journalists to go on a mission to understand the process that led Europeans to see slavery as not only profitable, but justified. In the English Channel, DWP divers locate the earliest slave wreck ever found.
S1.E3 ∙ Follow the Money
Shot on location in Suriname, Brazil, Portugal and the UK, the team investigate the economics of the slave trade, while searching for a sunken slave ship that represents the single greatest loss of life during the entire slave trade.
S1.E4 ∙ New World Cultures
Samuel L. Jackson visits the only African town established in America. The Diving With A Purpose divers help youths in Costa Rica discover their African heritage, by diving and identifying a sunken slave ship off their coast.
S1.E5 ∙ Resistance
Explore the African resistance to slavery in Africa and the thousands who risked their lives as part of the 'Underground Railroad.' The DWP divers hope to identify a preserved wreck of a ship that ferried enslaved Africans to freedom.
S1.E6 ∙ Abolition
The finale explores the politics that brought the enslavement of Africans in the West to an end. DWP divers search for 'The London, ' a ship that re-enslaved freed Africans from St. Lucia and illegally trafficked them to England.
