Tue, Jan 26, 2021

It's the final day for the Race Cadets in training to become full-on Race Cadets. When they hear Sam Whippet call them all to the race track, Tag and Scooch stop what they're doing and go straight to the race track for their final challenge. Frank and Beans follow suit, as do Gilber and Cheddar Biscuit. Sam Whippet arrives along with his car and his lunch, which is lasagna. He explains the score is tied, and this final challenge will determine the winner of the whole challenge. The first part of this challenge is to go around Pawston to find parts for their race cars and put them together in a garage. The first team to make it to the garage first will earn a head start in the race, which is the second part of the challenge. The teams go to the beach first to find the tires for their cars. Tag intentionally drives behind the other two because she knew a shortcut to the beach and didn't want the others following her. She and Scooch arrive at the beach first, and Scooch is able to sniff out where their tires are hidden. Before they leave the beach, however, they are interrupted by Sam Whippet who is disguised as an old lady asking them to help her get her picnic basket out of the water. The other racers arrive. At first, Tag declines and asks the others to help the old lady, but they refuse, so Tag and Scooch go ahead and do it. Sam (as the old lady) thanks them and rewards them with what is in her basket: a lasagna. Tag notices the other racers taking off and declines the offer so that she and Scooch could catch up with them. Their next stop was on top of a mountain, which Tag fortunately also knew a shortcut to. Once again, Scooch uses his sniffing skills to get the engine for their race car. However, they get another encounter from Sam Whippet. This time, he is disguised as a lumberjack asking Tag and Scooch to help him get into his cabin, which had been covered by an avalanche. The other racers arrive and refuse to help him again, so Tag and Scooch dig away the snow covering the cabin, but just enough so that Sam could access the front door. He once again thanks them by offering them lasagna, but seeing the others take off, Tag and Scooch decline the offer so that they can catch up with them. All three racers arrive at the dog party tree and retrieve the boxes with the body parts to their race cars. On the way back to the garage, they are once again interrupted by Sam Whippet. This time, he is disguised as a land pirate needing help with repairing his ship. Tag, as usual, successfully fixes his ship. This allows him access to a treasure chest, and inside is once again, lasagna. Tag and Scooch again turn down the offer and race back to the garage only to see that their competitors have beaten them to it. This is when Sam Whippet shows up revealing that the people that Tag and Scooch helped during the challenge were him all along. He explains that in doing these good deeds, Tag proved that there is more to racing than just winning, so she and Scooch won the head start advantage as a result. The teams start assembling their cars. Tag tells Scooch about the Barker Bolt, which was invented by one of her ancestors and felt it would be necessary to have in their car to prevent it from falling apart. Wanting to be a fair team player, she offers a Barker Bolt to the other racers, but they veto her offer suspecting she might be up to something. Not wanting to take no for an answer, Tag decides to install the Barker Bolts into the other cars herself while Scooch distracts them by telling some jokes. However, her plan backfires since Scooch does a lousy job at telling his jokes, and she gets caught. Tag explains that she's only trying to help them, but Cheddar Biscuit says that if she wants to be a good player, she can help them by letting them build their cars the way they want to. Tag reluctantly respects their decision and moves on. At the race, Tag, Frank and Cheddar Biscuit arrive at the starting line in their cars with Scooch, Beans and Gilber standing by. Tag gets her head start she earned. After the race starts, things go well for a while until the final lap when Frank and Cheddar Biscuit discover that their cars were falling apart. Tag makes it to the home stretch, but just before she crosses the finish line, she stops and runs back to the other two cars. She explains that she doesn't want an easy win. Frank and Cheddar Biscuit apologize for not listening to Tag in the first place an allow her to fix their cars with the Barker Bolts in place. Frank and Cheddar Biscuit take off. Tag follows this time not caring if she wins or not because she's happy enough to have helped her fellow competitors. When she gets to the home stretch, she's surprised to see that Frank and Cheddar Biscuit are at the finish line but hadn't crossed yet. They tell her that since she proved to be a good team player, she deserved to win, so they let her win, and Tag and Scooch win the whole competition becoming Sam Whippet's official Race Cadets.
