A guy who worked for a criminal offers to testify against his boss. McCabe is incredulous because he knows the man is untrustworthy and only thinks of himself. When he takes the stand he has a heart attack, at the hospital, one the criminal's men brings him some money, then kills him. McCabe later discovers he was trying to shake down his boss so that he could leave his daughter an inheritance. Later Jake finds the daughter and asks for her help to get the man who killed her father but she might working her own angle.

A supposedly kidnapped heiress (Suzanne Snyder) forms a romantic attachment to Jake (Joe Penny) to cover up her double life.
S1.E19 ∙ Blues in the Night
A woman who's a friend of McCabe's, has a twin sister who's a criminal. And she commits a crime and does it at the same time her sister was with McCabe. When Jake investigates and witnesses place her at the scene but because she was with McCabe, he doesn't arrest her. He tries to figure out how she does it and when he figures out about her twin sister, he arrests the twin. But at the trial, the defense dares McCabe to prove which twin was with him when the other did the crime.
S1.E20 ∙ How Long Has This Been Going On?
A man hires a P.I. to see if his wife is having an affair. She discovers that the man is a priest. The man tells the P.I. to be quiet. But the P.I. goes to the wife and tries to shake her down. The wife then goes to the priest and says we have to come forward. She then goes to her husband and admits the affair and offers to divorce her husband and give him an equitable settlement--it seems most of the estate is hers, so he kills her. He tries to frame the priest who is a friend of Jake's. Jake naturally looks to the husband but has no proof. Jake learns of the P.I. and knows her rep but she doesn't give anything up. She later tries to shake the husband down.

McCabe suspects that best-selling author Dennis Julian committed murder to get his hands on another writer's story.
S1.E22 ∙ Rhapsody in Blue
McCabe exposes a couple's sinister plot for the husband to climb the corporate ladder by framing his competitor for murder.
S2.E1 ∙ Wish You Were Here
A trip to Hawaii to visit an old friend lands Jake in the middle of a murder mystery. Meanwhile, McCabe retires as Los Angeles' district attorney but his history in Hawaii proves invaluable when he arrives to help Jake.
S2.E2 ∙ I'll Never Smile Again
McCabe calls Jake in the middle of the night to investigate a tourist who had been stabbed. After the initial suspect dies, the team must find the truth about what happened that night, while dealing with the victim's odd behavior.

Jake investigates a robbery of a transportation company, and gets involved with its owner.
S2.E4 ∙ Why Can't You Behave?
McCabe's son whom he hasn't seen because of something he did, comes to see him and McCabe is not ready to forgive him. They then investigate a plane crash and in turns out that it was caused by defective parts. And among the persons involved with the company that sold the parts is McCabe's son.

In a quest for evidence, Jake inadvertently endangers the lives a former prostitute and a her son when he asks her to testify against her one-time pimp.
S2.E6 ∙ It Ain't Necessarily So
McCabe puts an adult magazine publisher suspected of foul play on trial for murder who is shocked by the identity of McCabe's witness who takes the stand against him.
S2.E7 ∙ Someone to Watch Over Me
A young woman is found dead on the beach from a drug overdose. The immediate suspect is her ex-boyfriend, Sonny, so Jake goes pick him up for questioning. But a mysterious gunman is also interested in Sonny, and tries to kill him before Jake can get to him.
S2.E8 ∙ They Can't Take That Away from Me
Jake and two friends participate in a drug bust that goes sour. The next day those friends are found dead - killed by a shotgun blast while they were in their car at the docks.
S2.E9 ∙ Side by Side
McCabe and the son of a friend go fishing, and discover a bomb on the their boat. Unable to disarm it they jump in the sea and swim to a nearby island. Meanwhile Jake and Derek presume they're dead, and go looking for the bomber.

The Secret Service gets help from Jake in catching a money counterfeiter, who trades his product for cocaine. It becomes personal for Jake when a friend is killed during a failed raid.
S3.E1 ∙ I Only Have Eyes for You
A newly released convict starts terrorizing the woman who witnessed against him. She goes to McCabe for help, who was prosecutor who put him in jail.
S3.E2 ∙ The Lady in Red
When a friend of McCabe's who is an ex-cop who is now a P.I. is killed when it appeared he was driving while drunk. But McCabe notices some inconsistencies so he has Jake check it out. When Jake goes to his office to check it out he's roughed up a cop, who says he's investigating the man's death. When he tells McCabe about the cop he learns that he's the brother of the dead man's wife. They learn that McCabe's friend was investigating an old case--the murder of woman, whom the man may have been involved with.
S3.E3 ∙ Easy to Love
Jake and Stg. Danoho (a LAPD cop) are transporting a prisoner to Los Angeles, when the prisoner escapes and Danoho is killed. Danoho's partner, Sgt. Walker, goes to Hawaii to assist in the investigation and it turns out there's bad blood between her and Jake.
S3.E4 ∙ The Way You Look Tonight
A young lady is acquitted for killing her mother, and wants to hire Jake privately to find the killer. Jake turns it down because he's on his way to a vacation, but then McCabe refuses to let him take any days off. So Jake quits his job and takes the assignment.
S3.E5 ∙ Dancing in the Dark
Jake works with a reformed cat burglar to clear his name and help reunite him with his son.
S3.E6 ∙ It All Depends on You
Derek gets his first case - a drunk driver who assaulted a police officer. But the driver is a powerful man, and suddenly Derek's main witness lies and the judge dismisses the case.
S3.E7 ∙ Out of Nowhere
Jake and the FBI go after Victor Potemkin, a suspected drug smuggler. But when they raid his house they find no drugs, but Jake finds someone he knows - a woman who disappeared overnight just as he was about to propose to her.

An unknown girl washes up on a beach murdered, and a friend of McCabe, the newspaper columnist Leilani Simmons, takes an unusual interest in the case.

Derek gets Jake to look into things, when the sister of a good friend is arrested for possession of drugs. She says they were planted by her mother-in-law, who is angry with her son for trying to take control of the family company, and at her for marrying him.
S3.E13 ∙ You Turned the Tables on Me
McCabe and Jake are unaware that one of the office's prosecutors is in bed, figuratively and literally with a criminal they're trying to get. And she later goes to Jake whom she rebuffed earlier and learns about one of his informants who has info on the criminal. She then tells the criminal about the informant who takes the guy out. Jake wonders how the criminal found out about the guy. And he suspects the prosecutor.
S3.E14 ∙ One More for the Road
Derek is involved in a hit and run accident and Jake has to prove it wasn't an accident.
S3.E15 ∙ Who's Sorry Now?
While Jake is away McCabe is abducted by the brother of a cop killer, he convicted on the mainland, who's about to be executed. He demands that his brother's sentence be commuted. A cop from the mainland whose partner is the one the brother was convicted of killing, arrives and tries to help find McCabe. It's while McCabe is with the man that he admits the truth about what happened when the cop was killed.
S3.E16 ∙ I'll Dance at Your Wedding
When Jake goes to attend his sister's wedding, he discovers her fiancé is in some kind of trouble. He tries to help him but a cop tells him to back off.
S3.E17 ∙ My Buddy
Jake finds himself trying to help a little girl who picked his pocket. The problem is, he can't figure out who she is and she's not talking. Meanwhile McCabe is after a gang of counterfeiters.
S3.E18 ∙ By Myself
Max's trainer whom McCabe has feelings for is assaulted by a serial rapist. McCabe tries to find him while trying to convince her to testify which she is uncertain if she wants to.
S3.E19 ∙ I Ain't Got No Body
Jake and an old friend from L.A. investigate the New Life clinic over some mysterious deaths that have occurred there recently, culminating in the disappearance of a young woman who's mother was one of those who had died.
S3.E20 ∙ Put Your Dreams Away
Jake is undercover on a plane transporting drugs, when his real identity is discovered. The pilot wounds him during a struggle then Jake kicks the pilot out of the plane. From the control tower McCabe tries to keep Jake conscious by talking about their previous adventures while the plane flies toward the airport.
S3.E21 ∙ If I Didn't Care
To avenge the death of his son, a godfather sends an old high school friend of Jake's to Hawaii to kill Jake.
S3.E22 ∙ You're Driving Me Crazy
After brutally stabbing his wife, a husband pleads temporary insanity, but McCabe and Jake set out to prove there was method to his madness.
S3.E23 ∙ You Took Advantage of Me
The case against a man accused of murdering his wife falls apart as his mistress testifies, at the last second, that they were together. Jake is sent in to poke around undercover.
S3.E24 ∙ My Heart Belongs to Daddy
Jake is working to gain the help of a witness in a smuggling operation when his contact to that witness is attacked and killed. Meanwhile, a daughter McCabe never knew he had shows up at his office out of the blue.
S3.E25 ∙ Danny Boy
McCabe's son, Dan who is in prison is beaten. When McCabe goes to see him, he is belligerent so McCabe leaves. Later when some convicts escape Dan goes with them. Upon learning of this McCabe orders that his son be found.
S3.E26 ∙ Chinatown, My Chinatown
An old friend of McCabe's, a newly minted Police Lieutenant, is stationed to Chinatown, but when a reporter is killed while working on a story, he joins Jake in hunting the killer.
S4.E1 ∙ God Bless the Child
The two children of shipping magnate Frank Bronski kill their father and stepmother, to avoid losing their inheritance. Jake and McCabe must prove it was them, and not the man they set up to take the fall.
S4.E2 ∙ The Tender Trap
Derek's Uncle comes to town bringing with him his new, much younger, fiance. Derek is concerned that she's only out to get his money, but things are not all the seem when it comes to the woman.
S4.E3 ∙ Exactly Like You
When a man is murdered. Jake gets a lead on a suspect and when they pick him, he doesn't try to deny his guilt. McCabe notices a few inconsistencies in his statement. So they try to find out for sure if he is the one who did it.
S4.E4 ∙ 'Round Midnight
Jake and his date are carjacked while driving his buddy's Porsche. Derek suggests Jake bait the guy with another Porsche. The plan works, but things get a little more complicated when a world-class jewel thief enters the picture.
S4.E5 ∙ Only You
Jake goes undercover to stop a group involved in industrial espionage after a security guard is nearly killed in a heist. Meanwhile, things get complicated for Jake when a budding romance with a late friend's widow may cost him his life.
S4.E6 ∙ My Boy Bill
When a fence is arrested, McCabe assigns the case to Trish, one of his best prosecuting attorneys. The crook upon being informed by his lawyer that he doesn't have much of a defense, with the help of two other accomplices, first offer Trish a bribe to throw the case. When she balks, they kidnap her 7-year-old son to use as leverage against her. When the case goes to trial, something mysteriously goes wrong with key pieces of evidence. After threatening to pull Trish off the case, McCabe has Jake investigate and all evidence leads to Trish. Wondering why, Jake sets out to uncover the reason.
S4.E7 ∙ More Than You Know
McCabe and Jake are looking for a someone who is killing women. A reporter interviews McCabe and when Jake comes in to tell him about the perp, McCabe asks the reporter to leave and they talk. When she comes back and upon the conclusion retrieves a recorder which she planted to record their conversation. And she manages to find out something they've been keeping to themselves. She then kills a woman and using the info she got, she makes it appear the killer killed her. But McCabe and Jake notices a few anomalies.
S4.E8 ∙ Night and Day
A private investigator washes up on the shore. His partner is a friend of Jake's, and she's out for blood.
S4.E9 ∙ Goodbye
When a drug dealer is murdered in Honolulu, Jake follows a trail to the mainland which leads to possible corruption. After Jake is framed for murder, it's up to McCabe, Jake and Derek, with the help of and old friend, to clear his name and expose the crooked officials.
S4.E10 ∙ I Know That You Know
When a socialite is murdered, and the prime suspect is a cat burglar who broke into her house at the time she was killed. Later when the man is caught he claims that there was someone else who went into the house before he did. McCabe doesn't believe him and places him on trial and gets him convicted. But after the trial McCabe thinks something is wrong because the man is not known to be violent and later discovers something that proves he is innocent. So he thinks that someone else killed her, like the person the cat burglar saw enter the house or her husband.
S4.E11 ∙ Let's Call the Whole Thing Off
When the chief witness in a murder trial is murdered on the steps of the courthouse, the Judge gives McCabe a two-day continuance, in which time Jake must find a new witness.
S4.E12 ∙ I May Be Wrong
When a South African politician against the apartheid is killed in a bombing, a South African woman in LA, lobbying for the end of the sanctions against her country, is accused of the murder. It's up to Jake and McCabe to find the truth.
S4.E13 ∙ Daddy's Home
When Jake's old man turns up out of the blue with trouble right behind him, Jake has to set personal feelings aside and help his father.
S4.E14 ∙ I'm Gonna Live Till I Die
An accountant witnesses a murder. He soon befriends Jake. Jake takes a liking to the unassuming account. Shortly thereafter the account learns he has been poisoned and has 3 days to live. The accountant now living like there is no tomorrow teams up with jake to find the killer!
S4.E15 ∙ Pretty Baby
After a waitress and young mother witnesses a murder, and goes missing, Derek and McCabe look after her daughter while Jake hunts for the killer, and the missing girl.
S4.E16 ∙ I Cover the Waterfront
An old friend of Derek's shows up wanting to reconnect, but when he's found dead later that night, Derek insists it wasn't a suicide like all the evidence seems to imply.
S4.E17 ∙ You Don't Know Me
Andrew Blaine, a friend of McCabe's is ousted from his company by his protege, Charles Hatton. He also learns that his wife aided him. When she catches Hatton with another woman she snaps and threatens him. He is later killed when someone tampers with his sauna. Naturally focus turns on her but Jake doesn't think it's her style. So Jake decides to focus on her husband but unfortunately he has a solid alibi--he was with McCabe.
S4.E18 ∙ It Never Entered My Mind
McCabe's doctor after having an argument with the hospital's bureaucratic administrator finds himself the prime suspect when the man is killed. Along with McCabe and three interns he tries to find out who the killer is.
S4.E19 ∙ Second Time Around
Five years prior a famous attorney is being blackmailed. His devoted secretary offers to kill the blackmailer. But instead she fakes the blackmailers death. Then five years later the blackmailer turns up alive and is now blackmailing the secretary who is now married to the attorney running for governor. When the blackmailer is killed, jake goes undercover to see what secrets this couple is hiding!
S4.E20 ∙ I'd Do Anything
A Psychologist convinces a patient of hers, who is devoted to her, to kill her husband. It's up to Jake to prove it was them before things get out of hand.
S4.E21 ∙ We'll Meet Again
When someone makes an attempt on McCabe, he and Jake go through everyone they arrested to find out who is out. They consider David Thompson, Harrison Gregg and Brandon Moore.
S4.E22 ∙ It's a Sin to Tell a Lie
When a parishioner at McCabe's church is murdered, Jake and McCabe lead the investigation only to discover a cold case where another young woman from the church had been killed a couple years before.
S4.E23 ∙ Nevertheless
A man kills his wife, making it look like a robbery in a bad part of town. McCabe and Jake don't quite buy the story, and the more they investigate, the more suspicious they become.
S5.E1 ∙ Where or When: Part 1
An ex-cop turned P.I. says he came across a man who was stabbed. But the man he says was stabbed is identified as a wealthy businessman McCabe knows who turns out to be alive. McCabe thinks he was inebriated but Jake who knows his reputation tries to help him. They think it might have to do with one of the man's businesses weapons. So Jake goes undercover as a weapons dealer.
S5.E2 ∙ Where or When: Part 2
Jake encounters deadly thieves when he goes undercover as an illegal arms dealer to help a private eye (Robert Forster) solve a murder in the conclusion of this two-part episode.

A young graffiti artist who witnessed a murder paints himself into a corner when the killers identify him.
S5.E4 ∙ I'll Never Be the Same
Jake accidentally shoots a young boy in the dead of night while pursuing a suspect he had seen firing into a house. As they begin to investigate, the pieces of the puzzle don't quite fit together, and Jake ends up caught in the crossfire.
S5.E5 ∙ I Could Write a Book
A writer whom McCabe knows is found dead. It looks like a suicide but McCabe isn't sure. He knows the man hasn't been able to publish anything for fifteen years. But he learns from the man's agent that he was writing something, a romance. The writer's secretary has a copy of the book and gives it to McCabe and upon reading it learns that his friend uncovered a case of fraud and corruption. He thinks he knows who the persons the writer was writing about so he sends Jake to find out.
S5.E6 ∙ Two Different Worlds
A young lawyer acquaintance of McCabe's asks for Jake's help in investigating a murder her sister claimed to have witnessed. Things turn out to be a little more complicated than expected.
S5.E7 ∙ Every Time We Say Goodbye
When a model and known drug user shows up dead, everyone assumes her death was on overdose. But when it turns out Neely Capshaw was an old friend of the woman, McCabe sends her undercover to investigate.
S5.E8 ∙ Come Along with Me
When a body turns up missing a liver, Jake and the DA's office investigate. The case becomes a higher priority as more bodies start stacking up, all missing the liver.
S5.E9 ∙ Last Dance
While in the midst of a murder trial, a man comes forward claiming to be the actual murderer. McCabe is incredulous about his claim but decides to look into it. And despite more evidence turning up against him, McCabe is doubtful that he did it.

Some pickpockets snatch the wallet of a hit man which contained who his next target is. When one of them wants to tell the police, the leader nixes it. When the guy is killed, McCabe sends Jake to join their team to find out what they know.

An old flame of Derek's, presumed to be dead, turns up in LA looking for his help. With the mob hot on her trail, Jake has to help Derek out of the mess he's found himself in.

A local boxing legend is killed in a drive by shooting. Jake finds himself enamored of a local shopkeeper being threatened by the local gang, and chooses to protect her.
S5.E13 ∙ Stormy Weather: Part 1
After a man is murdered in an apparent copycat killing, Jake and McCabe must consider the possibility that McCabe put the wrong man behind bars the first time around.
S5.E14 ∙ Stormy Weather: Part 2
After a second copycat killing, the DA's office is forced to return to trial on that original case. Meanwhile, Jake continues to investigate, hoping to find the truth behind these killings.

For some reason she believes him and sets out to prove it.

After another woman is murdered in gruesome fashion, Jake and McCabe are put under heavy pressure by the city to close the case quickly. Partnered with the Golden Boy of the LA police department, the two must track down the killer.

Jake's friend and fellow police detective, Michael DaSilva, moves back to LA, but when a woman he met on his first night in town turns up dead the next day, Jake must help him find her killer.
