Dr. Joel Fleischman slowly starts accepting his desperately desolate fate, despite a defective shower leaving him to choose between swallowing his pride in order to get Maggie's plumbing help or bathing in the utterly icy lake. Popular DJ Chris Stevens' 'irreverent' comments on even Walt Whitman get him sacked from Maurice's radio K-Bear, but the boss soon offends everyone else in Cecily. Ed Chigliak's suave way gets reluctant Joel to make confusing house-calls on Ed's uncle, paradoxical medicine man Anku, who treats Joel to a Kentucky takeaway, traditional dancing and a sauna but refuses to be treated for his fatal cancer.
S1.E3 ∙ Soapy Sanderson
Dr. Joel Fleischman is depressed when grumpy old patient Soapy Sanderson completely ignores his medical advice, and is stunned when he and Maggie are named joint executors of his 140 acres forest estate where only wolves live. Maggie wants to turn it into a nature reserve, however un-required it is in this part of Alaska. Joel is rather tempted by the Indian chief Ronkomkoma's idea to turn it into a tax shelter by formally drilling for oil which everybody knows isn't there, hoping it may pay his way back to New York. Later Joel learns Soapy was a spirituality college professor for 20 years. Soapy also left them a $200 Lafitte-Latour for their trouble, which nearly works a romantic wonder, and a journal. Meanwhile the press gets interested.
S1.E4 ∙ Dreams, Schemes and Putting Greens
Shelly becomes pregnant and a wedding is arranged, but Holling has a deep-rooted fear - both his father and grandfather lived over a century, while their wives died young, leaving them alone and grieving for over sixty years each. Holling vowed to avoid their fate. Meanwhile, Maurice and Fleischman entertain a Japanese investor interested in building a resort in Cicely.
S1.E5 ∙ Russian Flu
Dr. Joel Fleischman has his hands full when his fiancé Elaine flies to Cicely for a visit. He becomes so busy trying to defend himself against the townspeople's charges that he is a KGB agent releasing the Russian flu upon them and competing with Marilyn over the best treatment for the illness, that he has no time to spend with his betrothed. Instead Maggie, entertains Elaine, which only further annoys Joel.
S1.E6 ∙ Sex, Lies and Ed's Tapes
There's much to deal with in Cicely when Shelly's husband arrives with the hopes of taking her back to Saskatchewan, much to the astonishment of Holling. Furthermore, Maggie's boyfriend fears he will soon die as the next victim of the O'Connell curse and Ed searches for inspiration while working on his movie script.
S1.E7 ∙ A Kodiak Moment
Hearing his brother and only surviving fellow Minnifeld died, Maurice looks for a 'son' to adopt. After Joel declines, he gets Chris to try, but although generosity gets them through the hard stuff, a game of croquet proves you can't adopt 'breeding'. When Ed tells Holling Jesse that the fiercest grizzly, who caused him to stop hunting anything else, is back, Shelly insists on joining them on a hunt which shows that although the men are older, the bear still knows them. Joel is asked to attend a hygiene class, but when he arrives learns it's for expectant mothers, which Maggie makes him improvise.
S1.E8 ∙ Aurora Borealis: A Fairy Tale for Big People
While Joel gives Ed golf lessons, the Indian warns him Adam is around, the never actually seen monster-prankster, blamed for all kinds of weirdness for some 15 years. Passing the night in his car in the woods after diagnosing a park ranger Burns, Joel is apparently robbed, actually taken in, by very human loner Vietnam vet Adam. Chris is delighted his instinctive sculptural inspiration fits the astronomical phenomenon Aurora Borealis (northern light). Chris accepts help from lost motor-biker Bernard, and discovers they share a lot, even an identity essential.

The townspeople try to cheer up Joel after his fiancee dumps him.
S2.E2 ∙ The Big Kiss
Ed goes on a spirit quest to find his parents; Chris loses his voice and must sleep with the most beautiful woman in town to recover it; to that aim, he invites Maggie to dinner. When Joel mocks her charm, Maggie takes on the challenge.

Maggie purports Joel to be her boyfriend to gain her father's approval; Holling comes to a very personal decision.

While fishing, Chris finds the body of a man frozen in ice. Maurice looks upon this as a business opportunity as a battle begins over the body. Ed takes a job at Ruth Anne's store. Joel explores his Jewish faith.

When Joel complains of ghost-like rumblings in the house, Maggie thinks it could be the loner who committed suicide in it decades before, so she orders an exorcism of the house. Meanwhile, the hypochondriac Eve wants Joel's help for her various ailments. And, Maurice is visited by his old Marine colonel who needs to borrow money.

Shelly's mom (who prefers to be known as Shelly's YOUNGER sister) surprises her with a visit, boasting about her new main squeeze, a really young Army man.
S3.E19 ∙ Wake Up Call
Spring arrives in Cicely and with it comes more quirky behavior from its residents: Shelly has a skin rash, Holling decides to give away eggs, Joel gets a lesson in medical care from a tribal medicine man and Maggie has a reawakening with the help of a handsome stranger.
S3.E20 ∙ The Final Frontier
During the Northern Lights, Cicely is infused with Japanese tourists, Holling decides to go in search of Jessie the bear and Maggie and the townsfolk are curious when a package arrives that is covered with foreign stamps.
S3.E21 ∙ It Happened in Juneau
Joel looks forward to a weekend in Juneau, hoping to spend it with attractive female physicians. But, instead, he winds up in a hotel suite with Maggie who clearly cramps his style. Meanwhile, Chris is flustered when Bernard, his "karmic doppelganger", returns from Africa.

Adam prepares to marry Eve. At his bachelor party, the men ruminate on the differences between men and women. Meanwhile, Eve lets an enthusiastic Shelly take over the wedding plans. And, Maggie and Joel try to finish what they started in Juneau.

Joel encounters a 108-year-old man who has come home to Cicely. He tells Joel that Cicely, founded by two incredible, free-thinking women named Roslyn and Cicely, was once considered the "Paris of the North". The series regulars appear in this episode as various residents from 1909.
S4.E1 ∙ Northwest Passages
On Maggie's 30th birthday, she decides to perform an ancient Native American ritual for saying goodbye to her dead boyfriends. Joel and Ed later have to rush in for the rescue when she turns out to be ill.
S4.E2 ∙ Midnight Sun
When the midnight sun, days of constant sunlight, hits Cicely, Joel experiences a relentless surge of energy and begins coaching Cicely's local basketball team.
S4.E3 ∙ Nothing's Perfect
Chris runs over a dog and is smitten by the owner. Maurice gets a very rare antique clock. Ed makes a new friend of the horologist.
S4.E4 ∙ Heroes
A rock musician (played by Adam Ant) accidentally arrives in Cicely, creating quite a stir-up among the locals. While Ed makes a documentary about the visit, Chris has trouble deciding how to put an old friend to his final rest.
S4.E5 ∙ Blowing Bubbles
A former lawyer named Mike Monroe moves to town with a unique medical condition and has to live in a bubble. Ruth Anne's son comes for a visit.
S4.E6 ∙ On Your Own
While Ed catches a fish containing a ring that he thinks belonged to Fedrico Fellini, the Flying Man and some circus performers revisit Cicely.
S4.E7 ∙ The Bad Seed
A woman arrives in town claiming to be Holling's daughter. Marilyn looks for a new house and asks Maggie to help. A friend of Ed's migrates south.
S4.E8 ∙ Thanksgiving
It's Thanksgiving in Cicely, which means they celebrate in their usual 'unique' way. Joel is lied to again by the State of Alaska. Maggie goes after Mike.
S4.E9 ∙ Do the Right Thing
A semi-retired KGB agent arrives in Cicely and reveals to Maurice that he once divulged some classified information. Holling finds a great nuisance in a health-care inspector who gives him some instructions to clean The Brick.
S4.E10 ∙ Crime and Punishment
The law catches up with Chris when the authorities begin setting up an extraction to have him turned in to the West Virginia police for violating parole.
S4.E11 ∙ Survival of the Species
Ed goes green after having a post-apocalyptic dream, Maggie discovers some old Indian artifacts in her front yard and Holling begins associating with a young runaway (Brad) from Los Angeles who develops a major crush on Shelly.
S4.E12 ∙ Revelations
Ruth Anne pays off her store loan to Maurice and they begin to fight over Ed. Joel has a crisis of identity when he gets no patients for 2 weeks. Bernard fills in for Chris while he is on a week-long self-discovery journey at a monastery.

Ed's spirit guide returns claiming to have found the identity of Ed's father. Maggie and Mike grow closer. An itinerant, blind piano tuner shows up at the Brick.

Strange winds from the east blow in some strange behavior. Maggie attacks Joel. Chris saves Maurice's life. Maurice figures out he can't live with it.

Ed's uncle tells him he needs to be married and has arranged a wife for him. Joel obsesses over Maggie denying they had sex. Holling and Ruth Anne chase after a rare bird.

Joel withholds practicing medicine until the State honors his contract and he gets his week vacation. Chris builds an art piece. Holling hibernates for 2 weeks.

Marilyn's family (Whirlwind) totem is unveiled and causes a feud. Shelley has hallucinations of dancers. Joel grows jealous over Mike and Maggie.

Joel's Uncle Manny dies and the people of Cicely join forces to locate ten other Jews for his kaddish.

It's spring in Cicely and the Annual Mosquito festival is coming. Holling feels the need to plant something until he gets some startling news. The town receives a letter and video from Mike.
S4.E24 ∙ Sleeping with the Enemy
Maurice's son Duk comes to ask for permission to marry. Holling has problems with Shelley and intimacy. Ed tries to save a native language with film.
S4.E25 ∙ Old Tree
An old tree near Cicely seems to be on its last legs and the locals enlist Joel to make a diagnosis.
S5.E1 ∙ Three Doctors
Ed is trying to figure out why he keeps waking up in strange places. Dr Fleischman is suffering from mysterious symptoms, but naturally doesn't trust the locals' diagnosis. Shelley has been singing for months.
S5.E2 ∙ The Mystery of the Old Curio Shop
The past comes back to haunt the residents (of Cicely) when Maurice works himself into a minor heart attack while over-fretting his age. Maggie relives a childhood fantasy, and Joel traces the history of Cicely to long-forgotten Jewish predecessor.
S5.E3 ∙ Jaws of Life
The dentist comes to town and everyone is scared. Maurice is cast in wax. Chris finds out he's going to live past 40.
S5.E4 ∙ Altered Egos
Obsession reaches new heights when Chris is dismayed that his ex-lover can't find any difference between him and Bernard in bed. Joel worries about losing his New York "edge". And Marilyn snoops through the medical files to find her perfect man.

Maggie is asked to be homecoming queen. Ed reflects on success. Maurice gets beat on a business deal.

Maggie regrets her auction donation and attempts to buy the item back from Chris, Shelly wakes up in Miranda's doll house to find Ruth Ann portraying the original owner, and Ed, turned P.I., films Hayden committing insurance fraud.

Marilyn walks out on her job; Maurice tries to impress an aristocratic English dame but Ruth Ann rescues the fox he intends to hunt; Holling's daughter has stood him up and Dr. Fleishman meets the ghosts of Yom Kippur past, present and future.

Cicely is in a mixed-doubles bowling tournament and Michelle is their star bowler. Chris finally realizes he's romantically interested in Maggie and she seems to reciprocate the feeling. Michelle leaves Phil and moves into the Brick.
