After the Halo event of 2552, there is a brief but violent period of civil war among the humans. Two armies on opposite sides of a canyon, the Reds and Blues, fight in the most worthless piece of real estate in the galaxy.

Lopez repairs the Warthog, while Grif takes the blame for its destruction. Meanwhile, at the Blue Base, Tex uses Caboose for target practice, while ignoring Tucker's attempts at friendly conversation. Tex suddenly decides to leave in order to infiltrate the Red base. During the attack, Tex sticks a plasma grenade to Donut's head and, in the ensuing chaos, also attacks Grif and Simmons.
Tex retrieves the Blue flag, but is surprised and captured by Sarge and Lopez. A wounded Donut is airlifted out of the gulch for treatment.
Church tells Tucker and Caboose that Tex is his ex-girlfriend, and outlines a plan to rescue her.
Church possesses Sarge's body and uses it to deceive Simmons and free Tex. However, Caboose, wishing to make amends for killing Church, shoots Sarge in the head.
Now both dead, Sarge and Church meet in the spiritual plane. The two complain about their teammates until Grif revives Sarge by using cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
A healed Donut returns from Red Command. He brings a speech unit for Lopez, who is revealed to be a robot. Sarge neglects to ground himself, causing damage to the voice card and resulting in Lopez's inability to speak anything other than Spanish, which none of the Reds understand.
Tex repairs Sheila, while Church spies on the Reds, who are still trying to understand what Lopez is saying.
Church worries that Tex will soon kill the entire Red Team. If successful, she would then leave, probably never to be seen again, before Church could remove the aggressive AI that resides in her armor. To prevent this, Church decides to warn the Red Team of her impending attack.
Church possesses Lopez in an attempt to warn the Reds, but is stymied by the language barrier. Tex and Sheila attack Red Base. Donut, angry at Tex for wounding him earlier, manages to disable Sheila by throwing a grenade halfway across the gulch. Church runs to Tex's aid, taking Lopez's body with him. Tex thanks Church for ridding her of the AI before dying.
Doc arrives in Blood Gulch looking for people to treat.
The Blues fend off an attack from the Reds while the Reds fend off themselves.
This could be a heated war drama with the Red Team vs. the Blue Team, except no one knows what the hell they're doing.
In order to repair Sheila, Church and Tucker try to determine how to activate the repair sequence in Church's robot body, activating a homing device at the Red Base.
Sarge reveals that he had put a remote control in the Warthog to allow Lopez to drive it remotely; Church unwittingly drives the Warthog with vocal commands and corners Sarge with it.
Tucker disconnects the remote switch, deactivating the Warthog and disabling Church's legs. The Reds decide to return Doc to the Blues.
The Blues refuse to accept Doc back from the Reds, fearing that he might be spying for them. The Reds eventually give up and return to their base.
Caboose suggests that Church leave his body, so that Lopez can make any repairs to himself and Sheila. The freed Lopez flees upon assuming control of his body. The Reds spot Lopez running toward their base, and mistake him for a Blue. Sarge and Simmons prepare to counterattack.
O'Malley's robot army continues its (very slow) attack on the fortress, as the Reds prepare to follow the distress signal and the Blues try to keep Andy from exploding. Meanwhile, Church tries to unravel the prophecy of the Great Destroyer.
A large Dropship carrying a mysterious new solider lands on Donut.
After the events at Blood Gulch and Recovery One, Agent Washington reassembles both teams to uncover a conspiracy behind Project Freelancer, and discover a shocking secret about a certain team member.
