The dreamy frontman of buzzy rock 'n' roll band The Queenmakers is found dead in the dressing room, just as they are about to go on for their set. Upon inspection, Sister Boniface finds a peculiar sting on the back of his neck.

A skeleton is dug up by Brutus the dog during the Great Slaughter Allotment Society's Annual Giant Marrow Contest. Initially believed to be Viking in origin, Sister Boniface determines the bones to be far more recent and belonging to a victim of murder.

Celebrity chef, Prunella Gladwell, comes to St Vincent's Convent to record an episode of her TV cooking competition, Queen of the Kitchen, with members of the Great Slaughter Women's Institute. When one of the contestants dies, it's up to Sister Boniface, Detective Gillespie and Sergeant Livingstone to find the killer.
