Ashley is thrilled about having finally consummated her relationship with Spencer the night before, whom she takes to meet her rock-star dad at a restaurant. However, Ashley's joy is short-lived when she discovers that her father was killed in a car crash. Ashley goes against her mother's wishes and hosts a rock-star style funeral for her dad where she learns the shocking news that she has a half sister. Meanwhile, Madison wants to reunite with Aiden, but he's turned off by her spoiled-rotten attitude.
Ashley takes the news of her recent half sister, Kyla, in destructive ways and protests to her mom about Kyla living in their home. Her relationship with Spencer only gets stronger after a rocky start and her own emotional problems with her father dying. Meanwhile, Madison fiercely tries to win Aiden back after dumping Glen. Unfortunately, their feelings for each other aren't the same which leaves her heartbroken. Kyla is left saddened by Ashley's reaction to her arrival in her house and finds solace in Aiden.
Vh1 Behind the Music gets footage of Ashley and Spencer kissing. Spencer tries with all her might to get the tape back in fear that her homophobic mother will see the footage. As Ashley and Spencer desperately try to stop the footage from airing, secrets come out. Ashley is angered that Aiden is falling for Kyla. Meanwhile, it's also her birthday and against her wishes, Aiden and Spencer throw her a party. Madison's family is having financial troubles and everybody finds out. Spencer comes out to Chelsea and finds out that she already knew, as well as Clay. Things get rocky between Spencer's parents when her dad finds out that she might be seeing her boss.
Chelsea gets accepted to an Art school in Paris which leaves Clay heartbroken because he no longer knows if the future of their relationship is a sure thing. Spencer's freaked out by Ashley's obsessions. It's bad enough that she's totally preoccupied with Kyla and Aiden's relationship, but now she's pressuring Spencer to come out to her family. Kyla lies to Aiden about her virginity but Ashley tells the truth to Aiden. Kyla claims to be a born again virgin in rebuttal. Meanwhile, Spencer's mother tries to get her a boyfriend but much to her dismay, neither are interested.
When a hate crime erupts around Spencer at school and Glen's rage over her sexuality boils over at home, Spence finds herself caught in the middle of violent intolerance.
