Lena starts working as a bank head and she now earns more than Gustav. Her career inspires him to claim a promotion at the post office. Lina is delightful for soon being chosen as the centrist in school.
Even if the children are ashamed for not having a glamorous car as all of their neighbors, Gustav Svensson is a hopeless owner of Volvo. But he might change his mind when Sara buys a new, glamorous car which he gets to drive.
Sara fails to meet a man to start a family with, and is very sad. Then she gets unexpected help from Gustav, who recommends a colleague at the post office, with a past as a rooster mascot for children.
The day after Lena had her 40th birthday party, she suffers an age crisis. Gustav tries to cheer her up by bribing the kids to be nice.
Lena is to be interviewed in the local newspaper and gets a little delusion of grandeur and begins to dream of a job abroad in London. Once the article appears, however, it turns out that she was misquoted.
Gustav tries to make Max an ice hockey professional, and first get him a place on an ice hockey team to play in. However, Max does not have enough motivation. In addition, Lina has met a guy, Peter, who she is too nervous to talk to.
Lena's parents come to visit and arrange for the Svensson family.
Max's school class has had the honor of competing in We in the fifth, on TV. Gustav does everything to pep Max up for the competition, but after giving him a book about death, Max has no desire to compete there.
Gustav becomes godfather at work to the young, sweet Elinor, something that makes Lena very jealous.
Sweden has gone to the Davis Cup final in Tennis, which Gustav absolutely does not want to miss, even though it is a working day.
Lina applies for the role of the Virgin Mary in the school play. Gustav also wants to show off his acting talents and gets the role of Herod and takes this very seriously.
Father Gustav, mother Lena and children Lina and Max celebrate everything but a peaceful Christmas. A really merry Christmas with the Svensson family.
