Widower Sheriff Andy Taylor, and his son Opie, live with Andy's Aunt Bee in Mayberry, North Carolina. With virtually no crimes to solve, most of Andy's time is spent philosophizing and calming down his cousin Deputy Barney Fife.

After being treated to Aunt Bee's hospitality and home cooking, Briscoe Darling decides he is going to marry her. He even resorts to kidnapping her. Andy comes up with a clever solution to the whole mess.

After Gomer gets fired from the filling station (losing his room there), he moves in with Andy. When people come by the house at all hours of the night to get their cars looked at, Andy knows he has to do something.
S4.E7 ∙ A Black Day for Mayberry
Andy and Barney have to protect a shipment of gold which will be going through Mayberry on the way to Fort Knox. It's critical that they keep it a secret, but Barney spills the beans immediately and within minutes all of Mayberry knows. A carnival-like atmosphere soon takes hold. The plot thickens when Barney discovers there's no gold in the truck.
S4.E8 ∙ Opie's Ill-Gotten Gain
A mistake by Opie's teacher causes him to get all A's on his report card. He finds out the truth, but everyone is so proud of him (he even receives a new bike) he can't figure out how to break the news without disappointing them all.

Barney's landlady evicts him and he has to move into the back room of the courthouse. When she withdraws all her money and decides to marry someone she just met, Barney suspects she is the victim of a con man.

Barney has to play matchmaker for Thelma Lou's homely, visiting cousin Mary Grace, and sets her up with Gomer Pyle.
S4.E11 ∙ Citizen's Arrest
Gomer makes a citizen's arrest of Barney for committing the same traffic violation that Barney just ticketed him for. This causes Barney to overreact, resigning as deputy and demanding a jail sentence in lieu of paying the fine. When Gomer finds out how far it has gone, he tries to come up with a solution.

After watching a movie about Robin Hood, Opie and his pals befriend a hobo who encourages them to steal from those who have and give to him.

After Andy and Helen go exploring in a cave, it collapses behind them. They find another way out, but hear on the radio that Barney has mobilized the town to rescue them. They go back into the cave to save Barney from becoming a laughingstock.

Barney is the only tenor in the choir. When a tenor solo part is required the choir director is desperate to find someone else to sing the part. Gomer becomes the replacement.

Ben Weaver complains to the Mayberry sheriff's office that merchandise has been disappearing from his department store. While Andy investigates, Barney decides to go undercover to catch the crook(s).

Andy takes a much-needed vacation, leaving Barney and Gomer in charge. Unfortunately, nobody will let him get any rest.
S4.E23 ∙ Andy Saves Gomer
After Andy wakes up Gomer to put out a small fire at the filling station, Gomer dedicates himself to repaying Andy in return for saving his life.

To save money, Aunt Bee buys a side of beef from a discount butcher shop. When she gets it home, the freezer doesn't work right but she won't pay 'the man' from Mount Pilot to come and fix it.

Gomer joins the Marines to test himself as a man. Andy drives him to the base and stays around for a while to see how it works out. When he finds out the Sergeant plans to get Gomer sent home, he tries to find a way to get the Sergeant on Gomer's side.

Opie develops a crush on a secret girlfriend, and gets advice on what kind of present to get her. When he comes up with a pair of nylon stockings, Andy intercedes, suggesting something less personal, like flowers. Later, Andy discovers that the secret girl is Opie's teacher, Helen Crump. Andy informs Opie that he doesn't appreciate him cutting in on his girl, and Opie relents.

Goober doesn't take the job seriously (still working at the filling station). It gets so bad that Goober begins to work on cars at the sheriff's office and even ends up completely dismantling a car right inside the courthouse.

Barney tries to rehabilitate Otis after he rides a cow, thinking it is a horse. Barney arrests Otis when it happens again, even using handcuffs. Otis leaves town and vows to never return.
S5.E19 ∙ The Lucky Letter
Barney gets a chain letter that predicts bad luck it he doesn't make copies and send them to friends. To prove to Andy that he's not superstitious, he doesn't send any. A constant stream of back luck is the result. Things look bad when he has a marksmanship test coming up, which he has to pass in order to keep his job.

When Andy and Barney get tired of Goober tagging along on their dates, they decide to try teaching him how to act around women and then get him to ask a girl on a date. It proves to be quite a project.

Barney, however, thinks Andy's attitude is completely off base. Barney starts talking about how Opie may not get into college and the like and gets Aunt Bee all worried. Soon, Andy is just as stressed and he tells Opie to buckle down and cut out the play time. Helen soon reports to him that since they last spoke of Opie, he is actually doing much worse and not only in math. Andy can't understand since he's been quite strict with Opie who has done nothing but study. Helen suggests that that may just be the problem.
S5.E31 ∙ Opie and the Carnival
Opie tries to win Andy a birthday present at the carnival's shooting gallery but gets ripped off for all his money by a pair of hucksters using guns with crooked sights.
S6.E1 ∙ Opie's Job
Opie tries to get a job delivering groceries to pay for getting his bike fixed. He competes with another boy for it, but finds out the other boy needs the money to help his family.

Andy gets jealous when a big-city teacher arrives to work with Helen and ends up spending several evenings with her.

Opie and his new friend Tommy are having fun with the new boy's miniature walkie-talkies. They listen in on conversations and the like but Tommy has a sense of humor that not everyone appreciates. When Goober adopts a stray dog, they hide one of the walkie-talkies in the animal's collar and soon the gullible mechanic thinks he has a talking dog. Goober soon makes a fool of himself and the boys think it's quite funny. Andy tries to impress upon them that humiliating people is not funny and teaches Tommy a lesson in what it feels like to be the butt of someone's practical joke.
S6.E13 ∙ Aunt Bee Takes a Job
Aunt Bee takes a part-time job at a printing shop that has just opened in town. When Andy notices, among other things, that they print business cards with green ink, he figures out just what they're in the business of printing!
S6.E14 ∙ The Church Organ
When the old church organ heaves its last note, Warren finds an ad for a used one placed by a local farmer, and Andy gets pledges from local businessmen to supplement what's in the church fund to pay for it. When it's time to collect on the pledges, all Andy gets are excuses. But the farmer can't afford to budge on the price. The church organist herself, Clara, relies on her intuition to supply a solution.

After watching a TV show about a suave adventurer, Warren becomes like the character while sleepwalking and tries to romance Helen. When he wakes up, he doesn't remember a thing.

Warren meets Otis for the first time and tries to cure his alcoholism by introducing him to mosaic art. Surprisingly, Otis takes to it well, and even stops drinking. The only problem is that he has no artistic talent.

Opie is really looking forward to the school party this year - that is until he learns that, for the first time, it's going to be a dance. The problem is that Opie can't dance. He quickly loses interest in the party and Andy doesn't think much of it until Floyd reminds him that the same happened to Andy when he was Opie's age. Aunt Bee's attempt to teach Opie a few steps proves to be just a bit outdated however. Opie is convinced he will just plain embarrass himself, but it turns out not to be so bad after all.
S6.E23 ∙ The Gypsies
When a band of Gypsies comes to town and starts selling junk to people, Andy tries running them off. They put a curse on the town, saying it will not rain again until they are allowed to come back. When there is no rain for over a week, the town turns against Andy.

Goober falls hard for the new waitress at the diner, but she only has eyes for Andy.
S6.E25 ∙ A Baby in the House
When Aunt Bee gets a call from her niece Martha asking if she would take take care of their baby for a week while they attend a wedding, she gladly accepts. She also assures Andy that the baby will be no trouble at all. She's somewhat taken aback however when the baby cries every time she picks her up. Others seem to have no problem, including Andy. She soon finds herself asking anyone who is handy to stop by the house at feeding times, as she's convinced herself that the baby hates her. An emergency of sorts convinces her otherwise.

Andy and Helen try their matchmaking skills on Howard Sprague and the pretty new county health officer, Miss Fairchild. They find out Howard's mother keeps him on a very short leash.

Only problem is, he's not much of businessman and Andy and Emmett start to wonder what they have got themselves into when Goober starts to make some pretty serious errors, like forgetting to order gas. When Goober reads about a well-educated man who lost millions when he became head of his company, he loses all confidence in himself.

Goober finds out Andy is taking Aunt Bee and Opie to the auto show in Raleigh and asks to go along, confident they'll get free samples when salesmen find out he's a "big operator." At the hotel, Goober calls up Roy Swanson, an old friend from trade school, to see how he's doing and to brag a little. They meet at the show and Goober is surprised to find out that Roy is a senior vice-president in charge of engineering with Amalgamated Motors. After hearing about a fellow student, Goober tells Roy he has a chain of stations instead of just one. When Roy meets the Taylors and invites them to dinner, Goober says it's his treat and chooses the finest restaurant in Raleigh. At dinner, Goober, out of his element, tries to act like a big shot but things don't work out and Roy finds out the truth. As they prepare to go home the next day, Andy unsuccessfully tries to cheer up a dejected Goober, who feels like a complete failure. Stopping for gas, Andy gets a bottle of pop and sees Roy, covered in grease, working on a car. He calls Goober over and asks him if he'd like to say hello to an old friend but Goober declines, saying he wouldn't want to embarrass him.

Aunt Bee takes flying lessons but doesn't feel she is ready to fly solo.

It seems that Helen was once a gangster's moll when she lived in Kansas City.

Emmett wants to buy Martha a mink coat from Flora's friend, who is in the business. When he and Flora go to Mount Pilot to get it, Martha sees them and thinks they are having an affair.

Howard decides to become a 'swinging bachelor' after his mother gets married and moves to Mount Pilot.
S8.E27 ∙ Sam for Town Council
Sam Jones runs against Emmett for a seat on the Town Council.
S8.E29 ∙ A Girl for Goober
A new dating service wants to test out its questionnaire that is meant to find people with common interests and pursuits. They focus on Mayberry and soon Goober is filling out the questionnaire. Opie tries to tell him that he's not answering the questionnaire correctly - such as saying he read 30 books a month when in fact he reads that many comic books - but Goober perseveres. Soon, he's on a date with the highly educated designer of the questionnaire and it becomes painfully apparent that they have little in common. As things develop however, she soon finds there may be some advantage to the lifestyle and attraction of small-town living.
S8.E30 ∙ Mayberry R.F.D.
Sam Jones has his friend Mario from Italy come to help out on the farm. Mario brings his father and sister along without telling Sam first. When they have a difficult time adjusting to life in Mayberry, Sam has to decide if they can stay in the U.S.
