As the battles commence, the premise is simple: one song - two voices - one winner. Each battle sees two artists from the same team compete against each other in a vocal showdown. After each battle, the artists' own coach must decide who will progress to the knockout stage - and who will be sent home. But it's not quite over for the losing artist. The other coaches can steal a losing artist for their own team. Each coach gets two steals - if they missed out on an act during the blind auditions, this is their chance to finally grab them.
In a nail-biting final battle, the remaining artists of each team take to the stage to secure their places in the next round. Will they be able to convince the coaches that they have what it takes to be this year's winner of The Voice UK? Superstar coaches will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones, Rita Ora and Ricky Wilson will each take eight artists through to the Knockouts stage.
Emma Willis and Marvin Humes present the first of the knockout rounds. The coaches watch each of their eight contestants perform and must choose the best three acts from their team to continue on to the live shows. Rita and will.i.am pit their remaining artists against each other to compete in one last round before the live shows. It is now the artists who take control - they must each choose one 'killer song' that they think will give them the best chance to impress their coach. Which of Rita's acts, including Welsh school teacher Joe Woolford, Liss Jones or duo DTwinz, will she choose to take to the next round? On will.i.am's team are acts including Essex rapper Brooklyn, former YouTube sensation Esmee Denters, and the first classical Irish opera singer to have ever reached the knockouts, Lucy O'Byrne. Tensions and adrenaline run high as the artists give the performances of their lives to make it through the knockouts and on to the live shows.
It's now up to Ricky Wilson and Sir Tom Jones to pit their remaining artists against each other in one last contest before the live shows. Sir Tom Jones must choose between acts including bricklayer Sasha Simone, gospel-singing duo Joyful Soundz and spoken-word poet Lara Lee. Over on Ricky Wilson's team, will Scottish fireman Stevie McRorie, schoolgirl Claudia Rose, or powerhouse Hannah Symons have what it takes to make it through to the next round?
