Henry's niece April comes to stay with the Rushes, and he finds it difficult to tolerate her free-spirited ways.
The Rushes start to doubt whether Sara is their real daughter.
A guy who was pursuing Jackie years ago comes back to town. When Jackie learns this, she makes herself scarce. Sara meets him when he arrives and is amazed by how great he looks. She makes a play for him and they go out. When Jackie learns of this, she's upset.
Henry and Muriel decide not to find out what the gender of their baby is; however, Henry's father wants to know. He drags Monroe with him to help break into the doctor's office to find out.
A bum shows up and says that he and their previous tenant were close. However, he appears not to know that their tenant was a transvestite and they don't tell him. When he leaves something behind, they bring it back to him and discover that he's also keeping a secret.
Henry decides to make out a will, which causes a family squabble.
Sara comes home from a concert angry at Monroe because he didn't stand up to someone who took their seats. She takes him to an assertiveness training class which does wonders for his self-confidence but it also makes him pushy, arrogant and rude to the point that he is told never to set foot in the Rush home again.
Henry and Muriel's 25th wedding anniversary is approaching and Muriel is expected to go on a photo shoot in a helicopter on the same date, which worries Henry due to Muriel's pregnancy.
Against her father's wishes, Jackie falls for and accepts a marriage proposal from a police officer she's only known for a couple of months. After Muriel succeeds in getting Henry to let Jackie make her own decisions, Will Henry's biggest concern and Jackies' worst nightmare come true?
April has a fling with a much older music executive, much to Henry's chagrin.
