Daniel tells Marcel that their father, who Marcel has not spoken to in years, is seriously ill and on his deathbed as the Communists group plans it's next move.

Lucienne is preoccupied with the news of her pregnancy, and seeks spiritual guidance before making a serious decision. A party official from out of town joins the Communists in Villeneuve to help carry out an attack on a German officer.

Suzanne and Marcel are caught VB in a random roundup of villagers and brought in to be questioned by the Germans. Hortense's secret affair with Heinrich continues and Daniel becomes suspicious.

Daniel investigated the disappearance of food supplies to Villeneuve with the help of De Lever, while both Hortense and Lucienne 's respective love affairs are disclosed.

Marcel decides to risk it all and go see his son at Daniel's after he falls ill. Hortense learns that Heinrich will be posted on the Russian front if he doesn't stop the perpetrators of the attack within 24 hours.

Daniel is arrested by Heinrich after helping Marcel escape. Hortense pleads to have him released, bit Heinrich's career is at risk and he must force Daniel to divulge his brothers whereabouts.

Marcel is now faced with a crucial decision on whether to follow orders or disobey them. Hortense, who is temporarily staying with Daniel to assist around the house, attempts to save their marriage.
S4.E1 ∙ Le train
A train carrying rounded up Jews is forced to stop in Villeneuve. Daniel proposes to house them temporarily in the school, much to the concern of Jules who set up an anti German propaganda printing station in its basement.
S4.E2 ∙ Un jour sans pain
The captive Jews are settled in at the school, but not for long after it becomes obvious that food and water supplies are critically low. The guards want to use Jules secret printing area in the basement as storage for their equipment.
S4.E3 ∙ Mille et une nuits
The police are on the hunt after Jules and Cremieux barely manage to evade arrest. The situation at the school is deteriorating quickly. Daniel is faced with even more troubling news concerning the captured Jewish families.
S4.E4 ∙ Une évasion
After the Gestapo's decision to separate the Jewish families, Daniel decides to resign as mayor of Villeneaue. A tragedy hits the Jewish captives, while Marchetti attempts to release a woman among them who he's enamored with along with her mother.

After a father and daughter successfully escape, the Gestapo takes over supervision and the Jewish families remain separated. Knowing his wife and daughter will be relocated soon, Cremieux presses Marie and Jules to hatch a rescue operation.

Marie successfully helps Helene escape from the school, but raises the alarm in the process. Hortense visits the school, on behalf of Daniel, to deliver food and clothes for Sarah. The Jewish prisoners are transported by train to Paris.

Daniel and Sarah stumble upon a wounded man in a barn who escaped capture by the Germans. Across town Jules receives a surprise visitor who insists on bring taken to the groups Resistance leader.

Suzanne's reappearance puts Marcel in a very bad spot with his group leader, who discovered he lied about executing her. Marchetti and his colleagues attempt to set up a trap for Marie's son in an attempt to locate other Resistance members.

Marie's farm is under surveillance after Cremieux makes a deal with Marchetti to have his family released. Marie and Vincent unaware of Cremieux:s betrayal prepare for the meeting with the Communist group.

Marchetti relinquishes command of the stakeout before realizing that Rita was at the farm. Desperate to save her life Marchetti approaches Heinrich Mueller to prevent a bloodbath.
S5.E1 ∙ Travail obligatoire
The new mayor of Villeneuve has come out openly in support of the worker program that drafts young French men to be sent off to Germany. After Raymond's young brother-in-law is drafted he must decide to either comply or flee to Switzerland.
S5.E2 ∙ Le jour des alliances
While on the run from the authorities, Antoine and his new friend Claude end up hiding out at a barn where they meet another draft dodger. At the school, Lucienne is becoming suspicious of the new singing teacher, Marguerite.
S5.E3 ∙ Naissance d'un chef
Marie confronts Antoine and the other objectors at their mountain camp She tries to persuade them to join the Resistance. Marchetti is faced with being exposed for the murder of a German soldier after the case is reopened.
S5.E4 ∙ La répétition
Antoine leads his group in combat training for future action much to the frustration of his fellow companions. Hortense tries to persuade Heinrich to undergo an experimental operation that could relieve his constant pain.
S5.E5 ∙ L'arrestation
Marcel and Suzanne head into town to warn a Resistance operative of his imminent danger at a huge risk of their own safety. Back at Antoine's farm, Antoine reports his capture of two German soldiers, one who is wounded and requests a doctor.
S5.E6 ∙ Le déménagement
Marcel, battered after repeated interrogation and torture, wakes up in a cell with Marie's son Raoul; Antoine's group, under Claude's direction and insistence, practice theater in order to distract themselves from boredom.
S5.E7 ∙ La livraison
Antoine agrees to help Marie free the captive Resistance members with a desperate and daring plan. Antoine must convince Raymond to help them.
S5.E8 ∙ Les trois coups
The rescue operation succeeds but at the expense of one of the prisoners who remains in German custody. At the school Lucienne attitude towards Marguerite changes drastically after she discovers Marguerite's secret.
S5.E9 ∙ Un acte de naissance
Marcel and Daniel are reunited in a prison cell after Daniel was arrested by the French Militia. Hortense looks after Gustave at Daniel's home when a surprise visitor comes knocking.
S5.E10 ∙ L'Alsace et la Lorraine
Antoine decides to hold an 11 November remembrance parade in Villeneuve as a gesture of defiance. The Germans are lured out of the town by a diversion and the police are temporarily neutralized by the Resistance. Lucienne and Marguerite sabotage the radio communications at the school.
S5.E11 ∙ Le jour d'après
Following the parade, townspeople are rounded up. Müller and Chassagne compete to get Antoine first. Marcel is marked for execution. Marchetti interrogates Lucienne and Marguerite. Suzanne attempts to free Marcel but the price is too high. Chassagne is arrested.
S5.E12 ∙ Un sens au monde
Marguerite is pressured into betrayal. Marcel and Chassagne become acquainted. Servier's wife gives him a lesson in politics. Beriot gets a warning and is tasked with taking care of Marguerite. Marcel and Chassagne are executed. Antoine and most of the group evade capture.
S6.E1 ∙ Paris libéré
The resistance convene to debate it's next course of action as the Allied forces approach.
S6.E2 ∙ Le pont
The resistance awaits explosives for the bridge. Antoine and Suzanne are on the run from the Germans.
S6.E3 ∙ La corde
After arresting Antoine and Suzanne, Marchetti hopes their captivity will help his negotiations with the Resistance.
S6.E4 ∙ Sur le quai
The Resistance reels from the tragic death of their comrade. Marchetti awaits a train with the local militia across town.

Retreating German soldiers temporarily take shelter in the school, Hortense and Heinrich are interrogated by American soldiers.

In French with English subtitles. Lucienne focuses all her attention on Kurt, who's gravely wounded. Meanwhile, the Resistance meets with De Kervern, the new prefect.

New town leadership decide the fateof the militiamen and the collaborators after avoiding disaster.

Beriot changes his stance after being pressed by his superior to make an example of the militiamen.

Crucial information is revealed to Larger that hinders the prosecution as the trial commences.

Antoine is charged with rescuing Jeannine Schwartz, Suzanne is instructed to find damaging information on Beiot.

Marchetti is under arrest, accused collaborators unprotected and the threat of violent reprisals are high.
S7.E1 ∙ Derrière le mur
Servier and Larcher face trial for collaboration. Gustave's involvement in the black market with Jerome deepens. Lucienne's grief lingers while the identity of Kurt's grave, buried under an alias, threatens to be revealed. Antoine returns from military service searching for work and helps out an old comrade. The Villeneuve council is dissolved and political manoeuvring begins between the Gaullists and Communists. Hortense recovers from her public shaming but becomes increasingly paranoid. Beriot receives an anonymous letter.
S7.E2 ∙ Le carnet
The Larcher and Servier trial continues. Jeannine is disciplined for her collaboration activities. Suzanne takes Gustave in after having him released for an attempted extortion and tries to reacquaint him with his late father, Marcel. Heinrich Müller makes a surprise return but becomes a great disappointment for Hortense. Lucienne struggles to restore some normalcy to her life when she is forced to retire from teaching, at least temporarily. Antoine returns to the sawmill.
S7.E3 ∙ Rue Marcel Larcher
The Larcher and Servier trial continues. Gustave prepares revenge for the US sergeant's betrayal. Müller is arrested by the French authorities but is eventually handed back under pressure to the US military. Beriot's patience with Lucienne is running out. Raymond Schwartz is nominated as the mayoral candidate for the Gaullists. Gustave finally takes action.
S7.E4 ∙ Les quatre du maquis
The trial of Dr. Larcher continues with some interesting facts coming to light. Hortense becomes increasingly paranoid.Beriot gives Luccianne an ultimatum, and Schwartz has an offer to run for mayor. Gustave goes on the run that has a nostalgic feeling. A street and square in Villenueve are re named for Resistance heroes.
S7.E5 ∙ Les devoirs de mémoire
Gustave is offered a way out after a meeting gone bad with Jerome leaves one dead. Marchetti offers some hard truths in court while awaiting his execution, and has an unexpected guest from Palestine. Shwartz gears up for the "celebration of the 4,and the trial for Servier and Daniels fate is deliberated in closing arguments by the defense and prosecution. Antoine reveals a harsh truth at the celebration!
S7.E6 ∙ Au bout du tunnel
Antoine admits what happened to the 4 war heroes, then comes home to find Genevieve has been attacked. Gustave is moved by the words of his father's former comrades. A final verdict is reached in the case against Daniel and Servier. Raymond falls back into Jeannine's arms. Lucienne manipulates the priest. The author of the malicious notes is finally revealed. Rita has to decide whether to help Jean die on his own terms.
S7.E7 ∙ Prisonniers de guerre
Antoine and Raymond consider safety vs productivity at the mill. Lucienne volunteers at the church. In 1975 Tequiero visits Daniel with questions about the occupation. In 2003, Lucienne speaks at a memorial museum, then visits the cemetery with Françoise.
S7.E8 ∙ Sur la grève
After a mill accident the workers go on strike. In 2000, Antoine is disillusioned by the ineffectiveness of the Social Security system he fought to create. In 1975, Daniel takes Tequiero back to Villeneuve to explain to him what happened.
S7.E9 ∙ Un petit coup de rouge
Daniel seeks professional help for Hortense. Gustave and Léonor participate in the Communist party. Lucienne learns Jules' secret and seeks revenge. The workers' strike poses political problems.

Hortense tries to get out of the asylum. The saw mill strike ends badly. Gustave tries to explain to Tequiero what the occupation was like. The public respond to Hortense's art show.

Daniel discovers the awful living conditions in psychiatric hospitals. He rescues Hortense, who is mentally and emotionally exhausted, and re-establishes a lasting link with her. In 2003, Lucienne, Françoise and Bériot say goodbye for the last time.
