A lawyer returns to Britain to become the first black Director of Public Prosecutions. She begins to suspect that everything she knew about the man she has been married to for the past 20 years is a lie.

Members of the establishment begin to fear that Maya may shine a light on areas they'd prefer remained in the shadows. Sickened by his betrayal Nick reflects on how he met Maya and the events that led him to this point.

Maya is contacted by a witness whose story casts doubt on everything she thought she knew about the Antwi case. Nick confronts a ghost from his past and makes a fateful decision to protect his family.

Nick fears Maya is getting close to discovering his secret and is forced to tell a devastating lie to protect himself. Maya continues her search for the missing witness and Julia makes a discovery.

New evidence emerges that could prove Rudy's innocence. However, Nick is unable to intervene when a vital piece of information is revealed threatening his secret and everything Maya has worked towards.

Desperate for his family's safety Nick tricks handler Carter into a confession which he hopes will reopen the Antwi case whilst Julia and Alex realize Nick's true identity. Maya appears at the Supreme Court in Washington before a trio of judges to plead for Rudy's life, with Rudy as a witness - which works to their advantage, Returning home she finds an illuminating message from Nick, leading to a race to save his life and to finally expose the truth, some of which is shocking and not all of which has a satisfactory outcome though the family remains united.
