Diane brings a new girl in town, Maria, to Raj's surprise 17th birthday party. Raj tries to woo her, but Rerun already has a date with her--only to find out she's really only interested in him to get her green card.
Dee goes to see a doctor about her "friend" that's running away.
His ego hurt when his articles are not published in the school newspaper, Roger recruits Dwayne and Rerun to help him publish an underground newspaper. The experience soon becomes an important lesson in the First Amendment when they expose their no-nonsense English teacher's plans for a pop quiz and publish unflattering remarks about the principal. Roger refuses to reveal how he learned about the "surprise test" (his buddies had peeked in her desk and saw it by accident, something the teacher eventually catches on to) and is threatened with expulsion.
Shirley is offered a clerical position with a balloon distribution company. She becomes angry when she discovers was only hired to be a "token" African-American employee.
Dwayne's father, Lawrence Nelson, is running for city council. Dwayne is really proud of his father ... until one afternoon at campaign headquarters, he accidentally overhears him firing one of his campaign workers (Ted, a longtime friend of the family) and telling him to pack his stuff up and get out, because "we don't need that kind of stuff in our campaign." Dwayne's pride turns to shame and he goes to Mama Thomas to sort out his problems, but of it turns out Dwayne only knows part of the story - Ted was fired for theft of campaign funds.
Roger risks the success of his play by casting Rerun in the lead.
Rerun uses Dwayne's sure-fire system for beating the football pool.
Dee has a hard time accepting her father's decision to remarry.
A middle-aged dunce in Mama's high-school class lets her believe he likes her so she will do his assignments.
Raj wants to go on Strike at work, then changes his mind when he finds out his Mama is out of work.
Raj, Rerun, & Dwayne give their teacher Mrs. Collins a gift, an empty box, but then feel guilty.
Roger, Rerun, & Dwayne borrow the church raffle's grand prize color TV set and then drop it.
Raj and Dee help a young singing group get on "The Gong Show", Rerun auditions too and makes it.
Roger couldn't be happier about Dee's first date, the boyfriend has a gorgeous sister.
Raj, Rerun, & Dwayne are desperate to see the Doobie Brothers in concert. Rerun gets roped into illegally recording the concert.
A bully makes the boys put together a tape of the Doobie Brothers concert.
A con artist persuades Rerun to shave his head and dedicate his life and money to a cult.
Roger tries to impress an older girl by pretending to be an experienced actor.
A hit and run driver dents the car that Rerun "borrowed" from his brother-in-law.
Shirley plays mother to Roger and Dee when Mama visits a relative in Phoenix.
Roger and Rerun get their own apartment, and Mama keeps coming over.
