Opening day of winter bluefin tuna season in the Outer Banks. FV-Tuna.Com joins the Southern fleet for the first time. With the return of top-boats Fishin Frenzy, Reel E Bugging, Hot Tuna and Pinwheel everyone is fishing for success.
Captain Nick Gowitzka on Little Shell has long touted the greenstick as the secret to his success. But not everyone in the fleet believes its a necessary tool to catch giant bluefin down south and would rather rely on rod and reel. Meanwhile, Pinwheel is the only boat in the fleet yet to catch a fish this season. Their desperation swells as they fear they could quickly be falling too far behind to ever catch up.
Will the greenstick continue to give the Little Shell an edge, or will his more traditional rod-and-reel rivals prove victorious in the long run ? Captains are trying various methods to try and come in at the top of the catch board.
Rasta Rocket needs some money to repair damage from a previous trip, and they are not the only crew with concerns. Fuel, bait and repair costs are mounting for the boats so no bluefin for the buyers means no money for the crews.
In the Outer Banks, weather can change with very short notice, and the captains must choose between fight or flight when harsh conditions pummel the fleet. Those that brave it experience hard fishing and even some boat damage.
Greg and his crew can't seem to get their act together. Small mistakes are adding up, and the former champion boat starts to fall apart. The pressure isn't easy on the other boats either, but everyone decides to battle on.
The battle for blue fin intensifies as champion boats find the bluefin biting, but one crew member's personal loss could alter the rest of the season.
The competition heats up, and Captain Dave of the FV-Tuna.com lives up to his 'Tricky Dave' reputation. He asks questions, gets answers, and turns that into fish, but the fleet begins to lose patience with him after a few sneaky moves.
Some crews are struggling with few fish, some are short crewmen, some have injuries, some are just not having any luck, and some strike it rich, in other words just another day in the lives of the Tuna fishers.
There is a heated debate amongst the crews. The big question is, do you make your own luck, do you earn your luck, or is luck simply a product of experience, knowledge, application of that knowledge and dedication.
The seas around the tuna grounds can be both violent and totally unforgiving of any error or lapse in judgement. These are factors that every skipper must weigh in his mind every time they head out to fish.
For a change the fleet communicates in order to find the fish, but some captains will have to check every lead if they hope to make something of their season.
Its all hands on deck as the battle continues for the Tuna Titans. The question is can the mates keep pace or is there mutiny in the air. From family ties to bosom buddies, its going to take their all to put meat on the deck.
Near panic strikes some, tensions rise and tempers start to flare as the closure deadline gets closer and closer
A grueling season, competing against the best of the best, is taking its toll on the crews and their boats, but with the end of the season in sight, its time for someone to break out from the pack, or breakdown under the pressure.
It is getting to crunch time for the tuna titans, as the clock ticks down to the final day of the season. The pressure is on, in a fierce and relentless fight, which will determine who can go the distance, as the crews fight to the finish.
With only two days left, it's a battle to the bitter end, as the captains push their crews to breaking point, to prove they have what it takes to become the next Outer Banks champion.
